Summary...
We need to have beliefs about what paradise would be like. Only then can we either align our circumstances to our beliefs, or align our beliefs to our circumstances.
But fortunately, technology, drugs and meditation can overcome all of these problems for us. Food without calories; cosmetic surgery; genetic interventions or improved cosmetics. Robotics to work and provide for us. Life extension. Intelligence drugs. We are only at the beginning of these technological trends. But no matter how fine our lives could become, satiation could still dull those gifts. Or there might still remain the fear of their eventual loss. The feeling of isolation and lonliness occurs because we find ourselves alone, competing with others for survival. Able to communicate only serially through time using our limited muscles and senses. Real communion would require some kind of deeper channel connecting and sharing the contents of our minds, of our environments. Empathy is another way of emotionally binding us together, but is a second hand shadow of an emotion compared to the real thing. |
